Graviola, also called Soursop, guabanana, or Brazilian paw paw, is a tropical fruit with a long history of being used as a natural remedy for stomach problems and fever. The impressive health benefits of soursop include its ability to combat parasites, improve respiratory health, offer soothing properties, boost the immune system, relieve stomach ailments, and alleviate pain.


If you have traveled extensively in Mexico, the Caribbean, or parts of South America, you have likely encountered the soursop tree, scientifically known as Annona muricata. Studies have shown that the fruit of this plant can significantly decrease blood pressure levels in the body even more effectively than grapefruit. Additionally, this plant has the ability to widen blood vessels. Therefore, individuals with low blood pressure should be cautious when consuming soursop excessively. For those who are taking medication for high blood pressure, it is advisable to consult their healthcare provider before incorporating soursop into their diet to avoid any potential interactions with their current medications. As with any natural product, it is important to consume soursop in moderation. Excessive intake may result in symptoms such as vomiting, nausea, decreased appetite, diarrhea, abdominal pain, weakness, fatigue, dizziness, headaches, or possibly respiratory distress. Nevertheless, further research is needed to substantiate these findings.
