Boston Polo Club and Hands To Healing Recommend these Healthy Holiday Family Refreshers!

1. Jump start a healthy Holiday with this turmeric hot chocolate recipe that will not only warm you up but it also boosts your immune system!

Ingredients needed to make turmeric hot chocolate:

Coconut or Almond Milk

Unsweetened Cocoa Powder

Ground Turmeric

Coconut Oil

Black Pepper

Cayenne Pepper

Honey or Monk Fruit Sweetener

In a saucepan combine the milk, cocoa powder, turmeric and coconut oil. Give it a good whisk and bring to a boil. Whisk occasionally to get rid of any turmeric or cocoa lumps and to make sure the milk won’t stick to the bottom of the saucepan. When you bring it to a boil, turn off the heat and stir in sweetener(Honey or Monk Fruit) black pepper and cayenne pepper. Now all you have to do is pour this in cups and serve. Coconut oil and black pepper help your body absorb the curcuma from turmeric.

2.Ginger Beer Hoss’(Horses) Neck

Is a holiday traditional soft drink dating back to the 1890s, it was a non-alcoholic mixture of ginger ale, ice and lemon peel. By the 1950s housewives added a scoop of vanilla ice cream and candied lime peel on top. But the best recipe we’ve found that combines the flavors and health benefits is as follows! Ingredients

Recipe

3/4 cup Honey or agave sugar (you can adjust to taste)

1 cup peeled and minced fresh ginger (about 6, 3-inch pieces)

1/3 cup (158ml) freshly squeezed lime juice (about 6 limes)

1/4 teaspoon dried champagne yeast

In a medium saucepan, combine honey or sugar, ginger, and 1 quart of cold water. Bring to a boil over high heat and cook, stirring, until sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat, cover, and let stand 1 hour to steep.

Strain fine-mesh strainer and funnel into a 2-liter soda bottle. Add lime juice, then fill with cold water to within 2 inches of top. Cap and cool in the refrigerator until about 65°F (18°C).

Add champagne yeast. Cap the bottle and let it stand at room temperature for about 24 hours, checking bottle pressure intermittently every 8 hours by squeezing it or releasing the cap slightly and briefly.

When ginger beer has achieved the desired carbonation level, transfer to the refrigerator. To serve, top with one scoop of vegan vanilla ice cream sprinkle with candied lime peel. Add a peppermint stick or cinnamon stick for a great looking holiday beverage!

Candied Lime peel preparation: Using a sharp knife, carefully remove any thick white pith from lime peel. Cut peel into thin 1-inch-long strips. Bring a medium pot filled with water to a boil over high heat. Add lime peel to boiling water and cook for 1 minute. Heat monk fruit sugar and 1/2 cup water in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat until monk fruit sugar is dissolved. Drain lime peel and add to saucepan; cook, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes. Toss with monk fruit sugar to coat store in airtight container refrigerate until ready to use.

EXTRA TIP... Making this dairy free turmeric hot chocolate requires just a handful of ingredients and a couple of steps. Simply start by adding some cocoa or cacao powder, ground turmeric, black pepper, coconut oil, maple syrup and a couple tablespoons of water to a small sauce pan and whisk until a smooth, paste forms. Turn the heat to medium and whisk in some non-dairy milk. Increase the heat and allow the hot chocolate to warm through until it's almost boiling, whisking occasionally. If desired, carefully froth the hot chocolate with a hand-held milk frother before pouring it into a mug and enjoying!
